Talent? or A Lunch Bucket Team?

Well, it is hard to believe but our high school football season is over.  We lost this year in the semis to a great opponent.  It was a funny year.  One of those years where I looked on paper and saw the incredible talent of our team and thought for sure we would "go all the way" and possibly win the championship.
It reminds me of many of the teams we see in professional football, where on paper in looks like they will "clean up" but they sometimes don't even make it to the play-offs.

The thing I love about football is that it is a TEAM sport.  You cannot win the game just with talent.  You cannot even do well even if you have a few really good players.  I am reminded of a Superbowl once won by a team and I remember the commentators being surprised and saying, "now there was a lunch bucket team".  What I think he meant by that was that everyone "came to work" everyone was willing to do whatever it took to win at the top level.

Sometimes in life we don't always have the most talent.  Sometimes in our families we don't always have the best of things and it is not always easy.  We must be like the "lunch bucket team".  We must work together to make life better.  Maybe you haven't had the best family, maybe you haven't had the easiest time, we must still make the best of what we have.  Let's do our best to make changes in our generation to make our world and the world around us a better place to live.

There is this incredible book that I love to read, the Bible.  In this book, there are many many people who "messed up".  When you look even at Jesus' followers called the disciples you see just a bunch of normal people (smelly fisherman) who made lots and lots of mistakes.  But the amazing thing is that they all did incredible stuff for God despite there failures.  I can relate to many of these stories.  I am thankful that God is a God of the "second chance".  When we experience mistakes and when we don't play our "A" game so to speak in life.  There is always an opportunity to turn things around.

So get your pads on and strap on your helmet and get our there in the game and do your best.  Play like a team and look to others (coaches) along the way.

Until Next Time
